Backstory
Chihaya Kisaragi had a seemingly normal life in her hometown in Aichi, before her family was massacred by unknown assailants. She was sleeping at the time, and woke up to her whole family, murdered in front of her. She would never be the same again, as her cheerful side never came back.
Chihaya started wandering Japan, not caring about the dangers around her, as she had nothing to live for.
9 months into her wandering journey, she snuck into an art gallery in Kyoto, to look at beautiful art. She started to cry after looking at some pieces of art with happy families in them, knowing she would never have a happy family again. A lady named Azusa Miura goes up to her, and asks her if she was OK. Chihaya started to cry even more, and told Azusa about her backstory. It makes Azusa get a little emotional, and Azusa offers to take her to her house. Chihaya accepted almost instantly, as she didn't have a home for a very long time.
She met Matsu, the little sister of Azusa. She hid from Chihaya, as she was scared of her. Azusa explains to Matsu her backstory, which made Matsu very emotional.
Eventually, Azusa visits her best friend, Takane Shijou. She takes Chihaya with her. Chihaya and Takane talk to each other, and Chihaya learns that Takane was lonely in her childhood as well. Takane added that she is a graceful violinist now, and plays the violin for Chihaya. Chihaya gets reminded of her older sister, Kotone (琴音), who also played violin. She became friends with Takane, and started to trust Azusa and Takane.

Azusa Miura
Chihaya thinks that Azusa is very kind towards her, and very ladylike. She is very thankful towards her, and tries her hardest to make Azusa happy as possible. She looks up to Azusa as a motherly figure.
Takane Shijou
Chihaya trusts Takane very much, and is really good friends with her. She goes overboard sometimes, however. Chihaya calls her "Shijou-san." Chihaya wants to get better at violin, and takes lessons from Takane from time to time. She is so dependent on Takane, that she will lose hope in everything if Takane betrays her. She calls Takane her only friend.
Akane Shijou
Chihaya thinks that Akane is crazy and weird, and is very scared of her. Chihaya tries to hide from Akane whenever she shows up. Akane calls her "Hayaku" (早く, Hurry Up) because her name contains the kanji for early (早). Chihaya refuses to call her "idolmaster-chan" or any derivation of idolmaster in general.
Matsu Miura
Chihaya gets along with Matsu pretty well, but is weirded out by Matsu's body pillows of anime girls. She is also allergic to the gardens Matsu grows.
